History

Founded in October 2020, CHEER (Community for Holistic Education and Empowerment of Civic Responsibility) is a California-based 501c3 non-profit organization based in San Fernando valley. Our goal is to provide educational resources and community service opportunities for families and students; additionally, we host activities for cultural integration and mutual understanding.

CHEER Youth Group is a chapter of CHEER operated by students and for students to provide an accessible range of services to all, offering a rich diversity of activities for civic engagement and the development of leadership skills.

Originally formed as a division of the San Fernando Valley Chinese Cultural Association in September 2019, CHEER has since developed into an independently functioning organization that offers a friendly, inclusive environment and strives to preserve cultural legacy, while encouraging innovation throughout the community to further prepare peers for the challenges of the modern world.

Mission

Our mission is...
a. to provide holistic education to learners - children, youth, and adults - who find identity, meaning, and purpose in life through connections to their local community
b. to empower children and youth to develop intercultural leadership skills through civic engagement and educational opportunities such as tutoring, fundraising, and the planning of educational events
c. to provide a platform for professionals to engage with communities
We accomplish this by facilitating partnerships with various institutions where children and youth will thrive and contribute to their communities.
